Findance arvostelu

Thomas Feijk alias Tomi Niittumäki on julkaissut materiaalia aiemmin kanadalaisen levy-yhtiön kautta.

9/10

One of the recent releases on the steadily expanding digital arm of Finity is a cool piece of easy going trance by Thomas Feijk featuring the vocal charms of Sonja. Remixes come in from Jussi Soro and Kasper Koman & Rusian B...

:: Thomas Feijk Feat. Sonja - Trap
:: Finity Digital
:: FTYDG011

1) Trap (Original Mix)
After a run of releases on Often Gruven Recordings, the Finnish producer Thomas Feijk makes his debut on Finity Digital. This track features a catchy bass groove and enough ambient softness in the background to still warrant labeling it as trance. This production is quite vocal-centric. Sonja's voice is very well demonstrated - especially in the breakdowns where there is minimal backing. Her voice has a beautiful melodic quality and the singing seems effortless, fitting in especially well with the dreamy ambiance and acoustic instruments used during the breakdown. On top of this, as the track moves on, when coupled with a light synth and that catchy bass, a contrast is created which really makes this track shine.

2) Trap (Jussi Soro Remix)
Jussi Soro is building a strong reputation with releases on several major labels - Five AM, Alter Ego, Enhanced, Subtraxx and ATCR to name a few, so it seems right that this Finnish DJ / producer has a chance to put something out on Finity. Jussi's remix is the tranciest of the mixes. There's still a hint of groove in the bass, which is good because it keeps the level of drive just right. The use of acoustic instruments jumps out at you very early on. A guitar is used to play some lovely, intricate melodic sections and a piano appears later on and throws some well placed chords about the place. Again though, the vocal work is a main highlight. Sonja's voice seems to have been brought more into the foreground here, which I think works a lot better. As clean and pure as it was before, the vocal work shines through again and does another fantastic job of bringing the track to life. Later on in the track, pads and synths are added into the mix, making for a noticeable transformation of the sound. Nice touch though, as it keeps interest in the production very much alive and the vocals keep it all tied together as one.

3) Trap (Koman & Ruslan B Remix)
Kasper Koman & Rusian B have taken this track in a tough, gritty electro direction. The bass growls and the beats are heavy. The vocals are heavily sampled and played with and a whole host of blips, bleeps, boinks and FX are used to really 'electro-ise' this track. This interpretation suffers a little from the lack of variation which is inherent to a lot of electro these days, however it is strong and dirty so is still very likely to energize the right target dancefloors.

Conclusion:
A very well accomplished production from Thomas Feijk. My favourites have to be both the original and Jussi Soro's remix. The original has a great groove especially when tied to the vocals and Jussi Soro's remix creates some fantastic atmospherics early on with the guitar + vocal combinations. Great stuff!
